Nameservers : FAQ

  1. How do I change my DNS info on my domain name ?
    You need to basically tell your domain name to "point" to the correct servers. This is done by changing the DNS information for that domain name.

    You will need to access the site that you purchased your domain name from and there should be a member's section. This will require a Username and Password [that you received when you bought the domain name].

    Then find the section that says something like "Change or Update DNS info". You then replace the information that is currently there with the nameserver information that came with your welcome email. You'll see 2 nameservers and 2 IP addresses.

    By entering this information, you are instructing that requests for your domain name are directed to the correct servers. It could take up to 3 days for your domain to be fully propagated and for your site to be accessable via your domain name.

    If you can't find a Member's section on the site that you purchased the domain name from, email their support staff and tell them what you want to do.

    By redelegating your DNS info for your domain name, you are in effect hooking your domain name up with the correct name servers and any requests for your domain name will be routed to those servers.

  3. How do I register nameservers ?
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Registering your personlised nameservers is a totally SEPARATE act than assigning them to your DNS info for your domain names. If you chose to have personalised nameservers on your account, you need to register them first and then when they are registered, you use those personalised nameservers to edit your DNS info for your domains so as to point to your account on our servers.

    When you received your welcome email, you will notice that we have assigned 2 nameservers to your account with their corresponding IP addresses :

    +===================================+
    | Personalised Nameservers for *ALL* your domains -
    +===================================+
    | Primary Server Hostname : ns1.yourdomain.com
    | Dedicated IP address : 207.207.207.207
    | Secondary Server Hostname : ns2.yourdomain.com
    | Dedicated IP address: 207.207.207.208
    +===================================+

    Note: The above nameservers and IP addresses are just examples. Use the IPs and nameservers that came with your welcome email.

    The following are the steps you need to take to start using those nameservers with your main domain and all your client's accounts:

    Register your reseller nameservers at your domain registrar.

    Go to your registrar and look for "register nameservers" page. Follow the instructions. If registering fails with error "could not verify IP addresses" or similar, try again the next day. Also note that registering nameservers doesn't mean registering a new domain, you are basically just letting the DNS databases know that there are some services with individual names connected to your domain name. (Registering nameservers will not cost you anything).

    If you don't find this option at your registrar's website, please contact them and ask them where to register your own nameservers.

    Modify your domain's nameservers.

    In order to transfer your domain onto our servers, you will need to change your domain name's nameservers with the nameservers you've created in the step above. Set it to use your reseller nameservers (ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com). These are the nameservers that will be listed when people are doing a Whois on your domain "yourdomain.com".

    Modify your client's nameservers.

    In order to transfer your client's domains onto our servers, the same step as above will need to be done with both new and existing clients.

    If you handle the domain for your client, go to the registrar and set your client's domain to use ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com. If not, send email to the client telling them to make the changes at their registrar (this is usually included in the welcome email you send them as the reseller).
